Why is a mode greyed out?
Twilight, Stage, Declutter and Exterior only switch on when the photo suits them. Here is what each one needs, and what to do instead.
When you open a photo, Twilight reads it first: inside or outside, whether sky is in the frame, whether the room is furnished, whether there is clutter. A mode that would not make sense for that photo is greyed out instead of letting you spend credits on it.
On a computer, hover over a greyed-out mode to see the exact reason.
What each mode needs
| Mode | Available when | Reason you will see when it is not |
|---|---|---|
| Twilight | Sky is visible in the frame | No sky visible in frame |
| Exterior | The photo is an exterior | Interior photo. Exterior enhancement doesn’t apply |
| Stage | The photo is an empty interior room | Room is already furnished, or Exterior photo. Staging is for interior rooms |
| Declutter | Clutter was detected | No clutter detected |
| Retouch | Always |
Twilight works on interiors too
Twilight is not limited to exteriors. It needs sky somewhere in the frame. For an outside shot that is the open sky; for an interior it can be the sky through a window, such as a city view from a high floor. If no sky shows at all, there is nothing to turn into dusk. See Day to Dusk tips for the photos that work best.
Stage is for empty rooms
Staging makes an empty room look lived in. A furnished room is blocked on purpose. To tidy a furnished room, try Declutter or Retouch.
When nothing fits: Custom
Custom sends your own instruction to the model as you type it, so it is the way through when no mode fits or the one you want is greyed out. Apply stays disabled until you type something. Results are less predictable than a mode, because Custom skips the guided steps the modes use.
